If California health officials obtain full and informed consent before “moving people” into quarantine, and it is truly voluntary, that’s not necessarily an infringement on life & liberty.

The problem is that the word “voluntary” was never mentioned in the linked video, as far as I can tell. California health officials seem to be more interested in expanding their “emergency” powers than relinquishing them. Also see what California’s governor is saying:

Newsom announced that the “army” – his word – will start with a deployment of 3,000 and grow to the 20,000 mark to chase down who, what, where, and with whom COVID positive people have had connections. To what end? Newsom said, “the tracing component requires workforce and to identify individuals who tested positive…to ID their contacts (with privacy) and maybe quarantine individuals to stop the spread of the disease.

Note no mention of “voluntary.” And for the record, if a county health official shows up with a SWAT team in front of your door, and politely asks you to quarantine, that’s not exactly “voluntary.” (Quarantines at home for positive or suspected-positive infections are not new in the West. Forcible extraction from your home and separation of families would be.)

What’s also bizarre is that COVID-19 is far less deadly than the 1918 Spanish influenza, and this kind of thing never happened then. What changed?
