From the article at WAVY News10…… “The officer, Lt. Stephen Swecker, is highly experienced in DUI detection and enforcement. He has been recognized and awarded by Mothers Against Drunk Driving on at least four occasions for his performance in this area.”

That’s not some simple patrol officer. Lt. Swecker is a senior L.E.O. in a small department…… who more than likely absolutely knows where his butter is breaded, who more than likely absolutely knows what to kiss, who’s to kiss and when to kiss it.

Want to know why the typical Democrat was not arrested and charged with felony D.U.I. ? State House Delegate Hurst ‘got off’ because his girlfriend was also in the vehicle, she was sober and drove the vehicle from the scene.

Doesn’t matter there’s vehicle and body camera video of the incident and stop. Delegate Hurst’s typical Democrats brethren will simply say the video is lying.

I enjoyed this part of the local news report, which forgot “allegedly” and “supposedly” in favor of reporting what the police said as fact:

The officer was aware that Hurst is a delegate, but neither the officer nor Hurst mentioned it at any time during the encounter.

Additionally, according to Section IV, Article 9 of the Constitution of Virginia, unless they have committed treason, a felony, or a breach of peace, legislators are immune from arrest while the General Assembly is in session…

The officer, Lt. Stephen Swecker, is highly experienced in DUI detection and enforcement. He has been recognized and awarded by Mothers Against Drunk Driving on at least four occasions for his performance in this area.

It sure seems to me swerving all over the road in a 4,000 to 6,000 lb vehicle counts as a “breach of the peace,” which would constitutionally subject the Democrat politician to arrest. I imagine Lt. Stephen Swecker knows this. But he is, as you say, politically savvy enough to know that some Virginians are more equal than others.

Also look for Dems to find creative ways to extend the legislative session all year round! Why end it in March? Permanent immunity, anyone?

For once the Republicans are paying attention to the Democrats’ misdeeds: http://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?201+sum+SJ87

Coupla three things on the ‘event’.

Christiansburg PD Internal Affairs has opened an investigation into the matter and Lt. Swecker ; who has not been suspended (yet) or even temporarily reassigned to a desk job (yet).

The PD is also reviewing their DUI policies that are supposed to be - surprise ! - zero tolerance.

Something that won’t happen now with the Virginia state lesgislature’s current ‘D’ makeup, a Republican House Of Delegates member who’s a former L.E.O. has today introduced legislation to eliminate the ‘no arrests’ thing for elected officials that - surprise again ! - seems to have maybe been kinda sort afforded to typical Democrats on almost an exclusive basis.
