    Did you guess right ?

The South Florida Democrats Can Do No Wrong Sun-Sentinel says we have to stop active shooter drills in schools because - gasp ! - a private company was given the training contract and - double-gasp ! - they’re turning a profit.

    Srsly. Tru.

If you can’t turn a profit fulfilling a contract, why would you bother bidding on it?

I don’t know enough about how these shooting drills are done to have an opinion. But my hunch is that the #MediaJackals have hyped the threat of school shooting out of proportion to the actual per-capita threat posed by a shooter relative to other dangers in life.

That’s one problem. The other is that schools and legislators are not uniformly willing to take steps like arming teachers who meet certain reasonable requirements. Approximately 20 states allow this. But that means approximately 30 do not.

      See John Lott’s useful research:

There has yet to be a single case of someone being wounded or killed from a shooting, let alone a mass public shooting, between 6 AM and midnight at a school that lets teachers carry guns.

I’m in the electronic security business. Certified tech on very high-end surveillance systems, access controls, video intercoms, etc. You’d be surprised at the number of integrators who want ‘the big fish’ of accounts - government, school districts and colleges, transit systems, hospitals, office and condo towers, etc. and as long as they do okay (at least break even) with those, they’ll make their ‘real’ money on the rest of their customers.

Meeting with a new prospective customer: Hi company x, why should w choose you over the rest ?….. Company x: Well, we take care of the city of Fussmucker, the Muckenfuss school district and The University of Ixliplix. If we can handle them with ease, surely we can service your needs.
