Richmond judge Joi Taylor spent ~15 years working as an assistant attorney general for the state of Virginia. Does that qualify her as a member of the state deep state?
Judge Taylor received her BA from Lincoln University, “the nation’s first degree-granting Historically Black College” and her JD from Howard University, “the finest legal education to the next generation of social engineers”.
I have a good feeling she may have never held a real outside world job. Ever. Admitted to the Virginia bar in 1982, went to work for the state almost right away. After 15 years at the state level, left to become a judge in April of 1998.
The VCDL/GOA should have demanded an impartial judge.
Both VCDL and GOA believe the court erred in it’s decision and our legal team immediately filed an Emergency Petition for Review with the Virginia Supreme Court.
The Virginia Supreme Court is the state’s court of last resort. It has seven judges who serve terms of 12 years. I do not believe Virginia allows an appeal to the Supreme Court as a matter of right in this litigation.
As of 2012, the Virginia Supreme Court was rated as “leans conservative.” But that was a while ago.
As some famous Roman once said, “Inter arma enim silent lēgēs.” In times of war the law is silent. Judges remain silent. Today that means judges remain silent when executive branch officials toss around phrases like “white supremacists arrested” and “credible terrorist threats.”
I hope I am wrong. But I would not expect too much. Perhaps the best that can be hoped for is that an enterprising #MediaJackal will ask Gov. Northam what he thought he was getting when voting for a bill to prevent future governors from limiting Virginians’ right to bear arms.
Please allow me to rephrase the offered headline:
Richmond judge Joi Taylor obeys order from Virginia Governor Northam and rejects request from 2A groups to block “emergency” capitol gun ban.
