We’re at the very early stages of this pandemic in these United States, and we don’t know yet who will be proven right about the impact of the novel coronavirus. It is unwise to declare the winner of a tank battle whilst the field marshals are positioning their armored and calvary regiments.
If this novel coronavirus turns out to be SARS 2.0, then President Trump will be proven correct. SARS also came from China late in the year before spreading to dozens of countries, with as high as a 20% case fatality rate. But it was contained. By mid-summer of the following year (2003) it was eradicated in at least North America.
If this novel coronavirus turns out to be Spanish Flu 2.0, then the Democrats will be proven correct. It had as high as a 10% case fatality rate in San Francisco (of reported cases) but was not contained despite cancellations of public gatherings and mandatory mask laws. It was horrible.
We don’t know yet which path we’re following. Personally I am not optimistic but willing to admit I may be wrong.
PS: Rush L. is incorrect to liken the novel coronavirus to the common cold or annual influenza, but is correct to say that Democrats will try to “weaponize” it politically if possible. Heck, if President Trump were caught wearing pink socks, the Democrats would try to weaponize his sock color, the #MediaJackals would start baying about SockGate, Chuck Schumer would start talking impeachment, and so on.
Does any reasonable person not think this will be weaponized? Also the Republicans remember Katrina and how President Bush was blamed, probably unfairly.
