Former attorney general Jeff Sessions recently spoke at a Northwestern University College Republicans event and gave a middle-of-the-road speech. He did not call for illegal aliens to be deported. He called for only those illegal aliens who commit another crime to be deported. Per the same student paper:

“As a prosecutor in the federal system for 15 years, as an assistant U.S. attorney and 12 years as U.S. attorney, I think this issue is open and shut to me — you don’t get to come into the country illegally,” Sessions said. “If you come illegally and burrow in somewhere and commit another crime, there is a bipartisan consensus that they should be deported.”

This is not radical stuff. This is far from deporting everyone in the country illegally, which some on the right would prefer.

To the left, anything except open borders appears to be radical. Protesters screamed “KKK” and “racist” and so on outside the event, and tried to force their way in. Some were barred by police (the university administration made what is, sadly, now a rare and courageous decision to allow Jeff Sessions to speak).

Meanwhile, the student government approved an emergency resolution by a 28-2 vote. The student government president fretted:

“Campus is feeling unsafe and that someone has entered their safe space that is home and that makes them feel threatened with their acts of hate speech,” the SESP senior said. “(The resolution) is calling the University to allow for flexibility right now to deal with what that trauma looks like.”

To summarize: Jeff Sessions talked about enforcing immigration law against criminals and the student newspaper apologized for daring to report that news. That was apparently “hate speech” and “trauma” that “entered their safe space.”

At least the #MediaJackals can look forward to a new litter of jackals-in-training when these graduate.
