The agenda for the November 12 Monroe County meeting describes the new law as: “Prohibited Harassment of a Police Officer, Peace Officer or First Responder in Monroe County.” But harassment is already illegal. No new laws were necessary.
The good legislators in Monroe County, New York are used to dealing with things like regulating grease traps of restaurants. Given the state of our educational system today, it is not surprising that they enacted an anti-constitutional law. One hopes that their excuse is ignorance, not malice.
It underestimates the left to expect this anti-constitutionalist effort to outlaw “annoying” remarks will end here. I would not be surprised to see a broader “illegal to annoy” law. The left’s favorite victim groups will never be charged under it. Instead criminal defendants will be those white supremacist heteronormative Nazi separatist hater badthink deplorable Trump supporting bitter clingers. Their very existence annoys the left.
