Interesting. There is apparently a United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney. It is, according to its missions statement, “dedicated to the rigorous analysis of American foreign policy, economics, politics and culture.” Who knew?
Brown said he had friends on Capitol Hill who were very worried about mass social disorder and a “gun battle on the streets.”
“But people will chafe, that idea of individual freedom and liberty is much stronger in the U.S. than it is Australia,” he added.
This is too flip and lacking context to do much with. If you listen to the interview this Australian fellow is making the claim that his friends on Capitol Hill are worried about people walking around with guns there–which seems a little unlikely given DC’s restrictive gun laws.
But maybe his prediction will narrowly prove correct. At some point the “just following orders” coronavirus cops will try to arrest the wrong person for daring to walk down a deserted beach or through a empty field. That person may not agree that an arrest is wise, legal, or constitutional. That person may be armed and better trained. This is not what I’d describe as a “gun battle on the streets” (if it happens) but seems more likely than an armed march to take over the Michigan capitol building.
In the last several weeks, six major US meatpacking facilities have shuttered operations because of the coronavirus outbreak. That means 15% of America’s hog-slaughtering capacity has been shifted offline, and there is an additional risk that beef and poultry capacity could be reduced in the weeks ahead……
A few days ago, Hormel closed their Rochelle Park Illinois facility for at least two weeks. That’s Spam central - where it’s all made - plus one of the places for some of Hormel’s other items like their Black Label bacon.
Yesterday, Tyson Foods closed their Waterloo Iowa facility indefinitely. That’s one of the three biggest pork production operations in the nation.
……and the Democrats are loving every aspect of this.

Pork, the other shall not be infringed meat.
