    The linked article is correct. Sadly its critique of public schools could have been written perhaps 60-70 years ago. The Friedmans wrote in Free to Choose, published 40 years ago in 1980:

    We regard the voucher plan as a partial solution because it affects neither the financing of schooling nor the compulsory attendance laws. We favor going much farther. (p.161)

    And

    The compulsory attendance laws are the justification for government control over the standards of private schools. But it is far from clear that there is any justification for the compulsory attendance laws themselves. (p. 162)

    I suppose we can spend another 40 years (or 60-70 years) making the same arguments and saying libertarians have the right answer. Sadly the libertarians haven’t had a whole lot of success in turning their answers into policy.
