It is astonishing how quickly “trans” activists have captured the media, academic, medical, and at least part of the judicial establishment. We are through the looking glass in a world when JK Rowling is criticized for daring to follow trans-skeptical feminists on Twitter, when many, many sports (except apparently powerlifting) allow biological men to compete against women, and when distinguished psychologists get fired for publicly dissenting from the left’s newly established “trans” orthodoxy.

I have my differences with The American Conservative, but Rod Dreher is right on this:

What I believe is clear is that no pre-pubescent child should ever receive puberty blockers or other hormones that affect their sexual development. The effects are permanent and irreversible. This is grotesque medical experimentation on children who are not old enough to consent meaningfully to anything… The medical industry has become besotted with the politics of transgenderism.

As far as I know this concept, or the contemporaneous equivalent, was common sense to every single person on the planet for thousands of years. We throw out this rule at our peril. And where are the Republicans with state laws outlawing this immoral medical experimentation on children not young enough to stay at home by themselves?

PS: Yes, they are coming for our kids:

The Mail On Sunday reports that at least three children in Britain were put into foster care by the state last year because their parents wouldn’t agree to transgender treatment… Americans need to wake the hell up. We need legislation right now to protect families from these fixers. Congressional Republicans, where are you?

Dreher is being too kind. Another way to write it (that might get even the libertine wing of the libertarian movement interested) is: “The UK government initiated force against law-abiding parents because some doctor somewhere decided their minor children were ‘trans’ and would be given treatment against their parents’ express desires.”
