Looks like several typical Democrats are starting to realize they have multiple perfectly-zeroed laser targeting systems aimed at their center-mass and other strategic places (like their oaths of office and what comes with violating said oaths of office).

It seems to me that if Virginia legislators earlier today rejected a bill declaring mandatory gun registration to be an “unlawful infringement,” then these same legislators must be… in favor of mandatory gun registration?

      Exciting times ahead.

    2. 1

This bill (HB 1689) seems to me to be a recitation of the Second Amendment and the Virginia Constitution with emphasis added. From the text of HB 1689 as introduced:

Any law of the Commonwealth, executive order, administrative regulation, local ordinance, or court order shall be considered an unlawful infringement on the right of the people to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by Article I, Section 13 of the Constitution of Virginia and the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States if such law, executive order, administrative regulation, local ordinance, or court order… Requires the registration of any firearm, ammunition, or firearm component… Requires any person to register as an owner of a firearm, ammunition, or firearms component… Prohibits any person from possessing, using, or transferring a firearm who is not prohibited from possessing a firearm… Requires any person to surrender his firearm, ammunition, or firearms component who is not prohibited from possessing a firearm…

This is mild stuff. It does not repeal any existing gun laws. It does not eliminate restrictions on “prohibited persons.” And it would only be a state law, not an amendment to the Virginia Constitution, so it could be repealed at any time by future legislatures.

But it received no Republican support in committee today. The vote to lay it on the table, meaning delay or kill it (here’s the link) was 8-0. That includes Virginia Delegate Glenn Davis, a nominal Republican from Virginia Beach. This is the same Glenn Davis who wants to allow more local “gun-free” zones.

Virginia patriots and constitutionalists have lots of work to do.
