American voters had a chance to vote for a decidedly non-socialist president not that long ago. That would have been Rep. Ron Paul, who came in a poor 4th place by delegate count in the 2012 Republican primaries.
We can conclude from that experience that voters would like to more-or-less preserve their current government, which in practice means its tentacles reach more and more into the economy. While President Trump has done a decent job with regulatory rollback, how many federal agencies have been abolished? Have Social Security and Medicare reform started? Is federal spending increasing or decreasing?
Things might have to get a lot worse before they get better.
