I’m with my friends in the labor movement, the AFL-CIO, which called the Green New Deal “not achievable or realistic” and a “threat[] to our members’ jobs and their families’ standard of living.”
As for the merits of Sen. Warren’s comments, there are few to none. But the good senator’s subtext is worth looking at: The Green New Deal is for “racial justice.” If you’re for racial justice, you must be for it. Because conservatives are against it, they’re presumptively racists; because they’re racist, they’re against it. It hangs together so delightfully well!
As Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters memorably advised us: “You tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.” Deplatforming is a starting point. But it’s not an ending point. If racists are Nazis, #WePunchNazis, right?
